History
Originally formed as the Research Social Club (RSC), when the Post Office Research Station was at Dollis Hill, Neasden, London.
When Post Office Research moved to Martlesham Heath (during the earlier part of the 1970s), the name was changed to Research Sports and Social Club (RSSC).
When the Post Office split and the telecommunications part became BT in the early 1980s, the name changed again to BT Research Sports and Social Club (BTRSSC).
When BT rebranded the Martlesham Heath site as Adastral Park and opened it to other companies in 1999, the name changed to Adastral Park Leisure and Sports (aka AtLAS). Membership was expanded to include all Adastral Park based company employees.

Carl Chittock
Chairman
Carl joined BT in 1989 and is currently a BT Global Senior HR Business Partner. He was Chairman for the Bodytalk Gym located at Adastral Park for 12 years, keeps himself fit by attending the gym and is a keen footballer. Carl is also Chairman of Kesgrave Kestrels FC and is a UEFA B qualified football coach.

Abigail Johnston
Vice-Chair
Abi joined BT in September 2020 as an Apprentice working within Applied Research, based in the Orion building at Adastral Park. She is a regular kickboxer and has recently achieved her black belt! Abi also enjoys playing tennis, badminton and basketball weekly at the AtLAS facilities on site.
Steve Willett
Treasurer
Steve was employed by BT for forty-plus years, the last sixteen as a Systems Integrator, based in the Gemini building at Adastral Park. He is a long time BodyTalk gym member and is keen on all forms of cycling; commuting, off-road, but especially road and club riding with Plomesgate CC. Steve plays an active role in the local CWU trade union branch as their treasurer.
Dan Case
Operating Committee Lead
& Webmaster
Dan has been with BT for over 15 years and is currently working in the Networks department as a software engineer. He has recently taken on the responsibility of running the AtLAS website and is working with a team of volunteer software engineers across Adastral Park to further redevelop the website and bring the booking system under AtLAS’s control. He enjoys playing football, tennis and running and is a big Ipswich Town supporter!
Andy Collins
Communications Officer
Andy has worked in BT for over 10 years, starting as a Network Apprentice and currently a Network Development Manager in Converged Core. He manages a team of Network and Software professionals who design, test and deploy complex solutions that have a direct impact on our live network.
He has recently taken on the additional of Communications Officer at AtLAS, keeping Facebook, Instagram and other social media up to date with the latest AtLAS news, upcoming events, and opportunities that members can get involved with.
In his spare time, Andy is an avid runner and gym goer, and can often be seen puffing and panting around the backroads of Suffolk. He often tries to do a mudrun or two in the year!
Ellie Phillips
On Maternity Leave
Ellie has been working at BT for 10 years having started as an apprentice and her current role as a Network Test engineer sees her testing the latest SD-WAN service offerings before they are deployed to the live Network.
She has recently taken on the additional role of Communications Officer at AtLAS, keeping Facebook, Instagram and other social media outlets up to date with all the latest AtLAS news and upcoming events and opportunities for members to get involved with.
In her spare time, Ellie is an avid runner and can often be seen running 5k or 10k either around Adastral Park or in the local area.
AtLAS Constitutions
- Include the mandatory clauses in this (downloadable) document in their Constitution;
- Submit an annual return to AtLAS by 30 June that includes the following;
- AGM minutes
- annual financial statements
- annual risk assessment
- proof of insurance cover for its activities, with evidence of adequate cover for public, personal injury and any other relevant liabilities (especially related to activities using Adastral Park facilities)
- a register of Club members (including if individual members of AtLAS)
- confirmation of compliance with applicable UK data protection regulations for the processing and storage of personal data, to include [at minimum] evidence of a published Privacy Notice and of a consent process to manage contact preferences.
- Make half-yearly payments (30 December and 30 June) to AtLAS for club members who are not individual members of AtLAS – £2 per non-member per month.
